Participants of the Paris Olympic Games were solemnly met at Tashkent International Airport.
Addressing the ceremony, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdulla Aripov, the Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the head of the Cycling Federation of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbayeva, and others noted the high efficiency of the conditions created for the comprehensive development of the country’s young generation, regular sports activities and the manifestation of their gifts and talents. They congratulated the Olympians on their great victories, which opened a new page in international sports.
Speaking on behalf of the winners, two-time absolute Olympic champion, boxer Hasanboy Dusmatov and gold medalist Diyora Keldiyorova expressed their sincere gratitude to the President and the people for their attention and care and promised to achieve even more significant victories in the future.
– We are happy with such a ceremonial meeting, – said Svetlana Osipova, silver medalist at the Summer Olympic Games. – The attention and care shown are an incentive for even greater success in the future.
– Only in a few countries is such great trust shown to young people, and they are solemnly greeted upon returning from prestigious competitions. Our native Uzbekistan always greets athletes in a great mood. At the moment, I am overwhelmed with a feeling of joy. Thank you for everything, – said the two-time winner of the Summer Olympic Games, Ulugbek Rashitov. – The Olympics were a success for me personally and for our entire national team.
Chairman of the Writers’ Union of Uzbekistan, People’s Poet of Uzbekistan Sirojiddin Sayyid read a poem dedicated to the winning athletes.
The Olympic winners, their parents, and relatives set off in an open bus. Many people greeted the athletes, lining up along the roadsides with flags in their hands. Heart-touching applause sounded endlessly.
The athletes who defended the country’s honor at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games arrived at the National Olympic Committee of Uzbekistan. The winners were presented with gifts from the President: keys to the Chevrolet Tahoe, BYD Song Plus Champion (605 km, Flagship), and BYD Song Plus Champion (150 km, Flagship) cars and apartments.
In 1996, at the Summer Olympics in Atlanta, representatives of Uzbekistan won one silver and one bronze medal. In 2000, in Sydney, there were one gold medal, one silver medal, and two bronze medals. In 2004, at the Olympics in Athens – two athletes won gold, one silver, and three bronze medals. In 2008 in Beijing, 1 gold, 2 silver, and 3 bronze medals were won. In 2012, one gold and two bronze medals were brought from the London Olympics. At the Rio 2016 Olympics, the athletes won 4 gold, 2 silver, and 7 bronze medals, and at the Tokyo Olympics, they won 3 gold and 2 bronze medals. At the recent Olympics, Uzbekistan athletes, having won 8 gold, 2 silver, and 3 bronze medals, prepared a worthy gift for the 33rd anniversary of the country’s independence.
One more fact: 10,714 athletes from 206 countries participated in the Paris 2024 Olympics. Of these, athletes from only 84 countries climbed the podium, and athletes from only 62 countries won gold medals. Athletes from Uzbekistan won 8 gold, 2 silver, and 3 bronze medals and took 13th place in the overall team standings. The Uzbekistan sports delegation took fourth place among Asian countries and first among the CIS and Central Asian countries.
Uzbekistan boxers, having won 5 gold medals, prevailed over athletes from countries where this sport is well developed – China, Chinese Taipei, Algeria, Cuba, Ireland, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, France, Spain, Türkiye, the United States and Azerbaijan.
The Presidential Resolution “On the comprehensive preparation of Uzbekistan athletes for the 33rd Summer Olympics and 17th Paralympic Games held in Paris, France, in 2024” was a vital program document in achieving such high results by Uzbekistan athletes.
At the 33rd Summer Olympic Games, gold medals were won by Diyora Keldiyorova (judo, -52 kg), Ulugbek Rashitov (WT, -68 kg), Razambek Jamalov (freestyle wrestling, -74 kg), Hasanboy Dusmatov (boxing, -51 kg), Abdumalik Khalokov (boxing, -57 kg), Asadkhuja Muydinkhujayev (boxing, -71 kg), Lazizbek Mullajanov (boxing, -80 kg), Bakhodir Jalolov (boxing, +92 kg). Silver medalists were Akbar Jurayev (heavyweight, -102 kg) and Svetlana Osipova (WT, +67 kg). Bronze medals were awarded to Muzaffarbek Turaboyev (judo, -100 kg), Alisher Yusupov (judo, +100 kg), and Gulomjon Abdullayev (freestyle wrestling, -57 kg).
