Inter-parliamentary cooperation is developing

On April 17, a meeting with the parliamentary delegation of the Republic of Latvia led by the Speaker of the Saeima Inara Murnieсe was held at the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

During the conversation, Chairman of the Senate N.Yuldoshev noted that relations between the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Saeima of the Republic of Latvia are consistently developing.

In 2010, a group for cooperation with the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan was established in the Saeima of Latvia, in July 2012 a similar friendship group was established in the parliament of Uzbekistan. In September of the same year, a memorandum of cooperation was signed between the Oliy Majlis and the Saeima on inter-parliamentary friendship.

At the meeting, the sides discussed the current state and prospects for cooperation between the parliaments of the two countries. The experience accumulated on implementation of socio-economic and democratic reforms has been analyzed. It was noted that it would be expedient to use all the opportunities for further enriching the dialogue between the parliaments.
At a meeting held in the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, Speaker N.Ismoilov emphasized that relations between Uzbekistan and Latvia, based on mutual trust and interest, are consistently developing in the sphere of parliamentarism.

During the conversation, issues of improving the normative legal framework of foreign policy and foreign economic cooperation between the two countries were considered. Views were exchanged on activities of the Joint Uzbekistan – Latvia Commission on Cooperation in Combating Organized Crime, Terrorism, Illicit Trafficking in Narcotic Drugs, Psychotropic Substances and Precursors.
