JAZZ WITH NATIONAL COLORING

Within the framework of the International Jazz Festival, the State Conservatory of Uzbekistan has hosted a concert of laureates of international and republican competitions.

It was opened by compositions ‘Calypso Bob’ and ‘Chicago’, performed by the student orchestra Big Band directed by conductor Arsen Nazaryan.

The performance of Honored Artist of Uzbekistan Yunus Turaev, who sang Louis Armstrong’s legendary hit ‘What a Wonderful World’ was a true surprise for the audience. The soulful voice of the soloist, and his manner of performance could compete with the leading jazz vocalists of the world.

The creative growth of the artist toward the great art is exemplary for young people. Yunus Turaev is an example of selfless service to music, tireless work and self-improvement, aspiration to cognition and innovations. The leading maestro of the Uzbek musical variety embodies the living connection of traditions and innovation, the continuity of generations in art and the tireless spirit of search.

“I rang among the happy people who were lucky to stand at the origins of the Uzbek pop art,” said Yunus Turaev. “Modern jazz undoubtedly brings exciting rhythms and turbulent emotions to the musical life of our country. Local young talents have been proving that they have much to show to the audience.”

The audience seemed pleased with the sparkling voices of the Conservatoire students, laureates of international and republican competitions Feride Girgin, Kamilla Maksudkhodjaeva and Karina Gavva.

Along with the student orchestra, the conductor Arsen Nazaryan guided the ‘Tarona Jazz’ quartet, who duly performed the legendary John Coltrane’s composition ‘Blue Train’.

The Combo group have left unforgettable impressions, winning the audience by the Uzbek folk song ‘Qilpillama’. I was amazing how professionally and bravely they filled the play of traditional instruments with jazz notes, without changing the national style.
