Large-scale reforms underway in Uzbekistan highly praised

A delegation from the Parliament of Uzbekistan is taking part in the 151st Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union being held in Geneva.

As part of the visit, Chairperson of the Senate Tanzila Narbayeva met with the Senior Coordinator of the International Labour Organization (ILO) in Uzbekistan, Yuri Sterk.

At the meeting, the large-scale reforms being carried out in Uzbekistan aimed at improving working conditions, strengthening social protection, and reducing poverty were highly praised.

Yuri Sterk particularly noted the progress achieved under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in this area. He emphasized that the goals outlined during the meeting with representatives of trade unions are of great importance for the ILO as well and expressed readiness to cooperate in their implementation.

The parties discussed issues related to the introduction of decent work standards, ensuring the enforcement of relevant legislation, and new initiatives in this field.

The development of the Decent Work Programme for 2026-2030 and its discussion in Tashkent with the participation of ILO experts were recognized as necessary steps toward ensuring labor rights and social stability.
