LEGACY OF AVICENNA: MODERN MEDICINE AND PRACTICE

An international scientific-practical conference on "the scientific heritage of Avicenna (Ibn Sina) and actual problems of modern medicine" was held in Bukhara.

The event, organized by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan in cooperation with the National Commission of Uzbekistan for UNESCO, Avicenna public foundation, Bukhara regional administration and a number of other organizations, was attended by professors, teachers, students of medical universities of our country, employees of medical institutions, experts from Germany, France, India, Russia and other countries.

First Deputy Minister of Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan A.Hudoyorov, chairman of the Avicenna public foundation Sh.Zokirhodjaev and others noted that under the leadership of President Islam Karimov a special attention is paid to the revival and preservation of national values ​​, studying and promotion of the rich scientific and creative heritage of our great ancestors, who have made a huge contribution to world civilization. A special role belongs to the scientific heritage of our great ancestors in the development of modern medicine. One of these outstanding individuals is our great compatriot Avicenna.

— This great scientist, who started his studies and research at the age of 16, wrote over 450 works in the field of medicine, philosophy, logic, chemistry, physics, astronomy, mathematics, music, literature and linguistics, of which 242 has been preserved to this day - said the chairman of the Avicenna public foundation Sh. Zokirhodjaev. - These unique works made a great contribution to the development of world science and have not lost their relevance today. In his book "The Canon of Medicine", Avicenna identified the main directions of development of medicine. The great scientist laid in his work the foundations for the most important methods of practical medicine and pharmacology. This was particularly highlighted at the international conference on "the historical legacy of scientists and thinkers of the Medieval East, its role and significance for the modern civilization", organized on the initiative of President Islam Karimov in Samarkand in May 2014. We collaborate with scientists around the world in studying and propagating the heritage of Avicenna.

Rich scientific heritage of Abu Ali Ibn Sina and its significance today has been on the conference agenda.

— The scientific heritage of the great scientist Abu Ali Ibn Sina is studied with great interest, - said the president of the Avicenna Academy in India, Professor Said Zullur Rahman. - In particular, the works of Avicenna is deeply studied. My research in this area are reflected in the more than 200 articles. The legacy of Avicenna, like treasure in the depths of the sea. We work with foundations and centers of dozens of countries, which are studying and promoting the heritage of Avicenna. We signed a memorandum of understanding with Avicenna public foundation in Uzbekistan. Well-established scientific cooperation serves to enhance the effectiveness of research. Organization of the memorial museum of the great scientist in his birthplace, Afshona village as well as establishment of a medical college under his name there epitomizes the synthesis of theory and practice.

Chairman of the Medical Foundation of Switzerland "EurAsia Heart" Paul Robert Vogt, Honorary General Secretary of the French Academy of Medicine Raymond Akdailu highlighted the contributions of Avicenna to the development of modern medicine, and stressed that his views are important in the development of neonatal cardiac surgery, as treatments, set out in the work "The Canon of Medicine” are still relevant.

Participants of the forum visited the Afshona village, birthplace of Abu Ali Ibn Sina, and laid flowers to the monument of the great ancestor.
