Meeting of Uzbekistan – Russia Intergovernmental Commission

The 19th meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Uzbekistan was held in Moscow. The meeting was headed by the Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Abdulla Aripov and the Prime Minister of Russia Dmitry Medvedev, the Ministry for Foreign Trade reports.

At the meeting the parties discussed the prospects for trade, economic and investment cooperation, further expansion of the legal framework, as well as development of relations in the field of transport, science and technology, environmental protection, and others. It was emphasized that the priority direction of bilateral relations is further expansion of mutually beneficial trade and economic cooperation.

Within the framework of the meeting, a narrow format negotiation was also held. Heads of governments of the two countries discussed key issues of bilateral cooperation and preparations for the forthcoming visit of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin to Uzbekistan in October this year, as well as for Uzbekistan – Russia interregional forum.

“An important issue is cooperation in agriculture. We welcome the export growth of products from Uzbekistan to the Russian market and an increase in Russian supplies. Thanks to the green corridor system, special conditions for phytosanitary control for suppliers have been created. They are using them, we can see the result in growing volumes”, Dmitry Medvedev emphasized.

Dmitry Medvedev emphasized that thanks to the efforts of Shavkat Mirziyoyev, a new page in Uzbekistan – Russia relations opens, contacts at all levels and directions have been intensified. Promising areas of development of bilateral cooperation are energy sphere, industrial and cooperative relations, joint construction of nuclear power plants, as well as interbank and interregional cooperation.

Following the meeting, Abdulla Aripov and Dmitry Medvedev signed the Protocol of the 19th meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation between Uzbekistan and Russia, as well as an Agreement between the governments of the two countries on cooperation in construction of a nuclear power plant on the territory of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
