Meeting with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy

On July 7, 2019, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov, who attends the Central Asia – European Union interregional meeting, met with the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Vice-President of the European Commission Federica Mogherini, in Bishkek.

The state and prospects of further development of Uzbekistan – EU relations were discussed at the meeting.

The parties highly appreciated the results of the visit of the President of the European Council Donald Tusk to Uzbekistan and his negotiations with President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on May 31, 2019 in Tashkent.

It was emphasized that in recent years Uzbekistan – European relations have reached a qualitatively new level and have been filled with concrete practical content in all areas of cooperation. In this context, the parties welcomed the launching of mechanism of negotiations on draft Agreement on enhanced partnership and cooperation between Uzbekistan and the European Union, the signing of which should become a milestone in bilateral relations.

As it was noted, the introduction of a visa-free regime for citizens of all EU countries by Uzbekistan this year stimulates people’s diplomacy, including intensifies contacts in trade-economic, investment, cultural-humanitarian and other areas.

Cooperation in Afghan direction, as well as some issues of international and regional policy were also discussed at the meeting.
