At Andijon district electoral commission No 2, a meeting has taken place with Gillian Elisabeth Gloyer and Andrei Krasnyansky, long-term observers of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe/Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (OSCE/ODIHR) observation mission for the elections of President of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The chairman of the district electoral commission, O.Mirzayev, told the visitors about the pace of the electoral campaigning for the elections of President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the powers and work of the district electoral commission.

It was said that the electoral campaigning conformed to the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the country’s electoral legislation and the main events programme approved by the Central Electoral Commission for the preparation and conduct of the elections on the basis of principles of transparency, equality and fairness.

During the meeting, answers were given to questions that were of interest to the international observers.

“Our mission’s main task is to observe the electoral process and to study it so as to ascertain its conformity to international requirements and standards. Representatives of our mission are familiarizing themselves with the pace of electoral campaigning in all the regions of Uzbekistan. In Andijon, there are also plans to study preparatory work at polling stations and to meet representatives of political parties, mass media and civil society institutions,” Gillian Elisabeth Gloyer said.

The international observers acquainted themselves with conditions created at the district electoral commission, the pace of electoral campaigning and work being carried out in the region to create equal conditions for the candidates for President of Uzbekistan.
