Meeting with IOM director general

As reported on the official website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan, on April 2, 2018, a meeting with the delegation of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) led by Director General William Lacy Swing was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

Currently, Uzbekistan is not a member of IOM, the mission of which is to contribute to the solution of migration regulation issues, development of international cooperation in this sphere.

During the conversation, the prospects for development of cooperation between Uzbekistan and the IOM were discussed at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The IOM delegation was informed that the Uzbek side is considering the possibility of participating in organization as a full member. In this context, the sides confirmed mutual interest in strengthening and expanding relations.

The program of the IOM delegation’s visit to Uzbekistan also includes meetings in the Security Council under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Government, the ministries of employment and labor relations, the internal affairs, and the Prosecutor General’s Office.
