Meeting with Qatar's Minister of Foreign Affairs

On October 22, 2018, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov received a delegation of the State of Qatar, headed by State Minister of Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad Al-Murekhiy who arrived in Uzbekistan with a working visit.

The current state and prospects of bilateral relations were discussed at the meeting.

The sides expressed mutual interest in raising the dialogue between Uzbekistan and Qatar, primarily in trade-economic and investment spheres. Despite the steady growth in bilateral trade, it has been emphasized that its volumes represent a significant potential for the two sides. It is expected that the intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation, which is set up at this point, will play an important role in this regard. The first meeting of the commission will be held in early 2019.

The issues of development of contacts in the cultural, humanitarian, tourism and other spheres were thoroughly discussed.

The sides exchanged views on current regional and international issues, the peaceful settlement of the situation in Afghanistan.

The second round of Uzbek-Qatari political consultations took place on the same day.
