MFA hosts a meeting with the Ambassador of Afghanistan

On July 15, 2019, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov met with the appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Ahmad Khalid Elmi.

Accepting copies of his credentials, the Minister warmly welcomed the Ambassador and expressed confidence that Uzbekistan – Afghanistan cooperation would be strengthened and expanded through joint efforts.

According to Uzbekistan MFA, current issues of bilateral relations were discussed at the meeting.

The parties confirmed their interest in building up political, trade-economic, investment, cultural-humanitarian cooperation and participation of Uzbekistan in implementation of infrastructure and socio-economic projects in Afghanistan.

Special attention was paid to the process of peaceful settlement of the long-term conflict in Afghanistan.

The Ambassador, on behalf of President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, conveyed deep appreciation to President Shavkat Mirziyoyev for his continued support of Afghanistan and thanked the Uzbek side for significant contribution to the launch of mechanisms for inter-Afghan dialogue, which was given significant impetus last March at the representative International Conference on Afghanistan, in Tashkent.

At the meeting, views were exchanged on the agenda and the schedule of upcoming joint events, including the first meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation, which is planned to be held in Tashkent.
