MODERN DEVELOPMENT OF TOURISM INDUSTRY: PERSPECTIVES

Modern development of the tourism industry acknowledges the need of modernization of the training system for the staff taking into account the existing realities and prospects.

Presidential Decree "On the training of qualified personnel for the tourism industry in Uzbekistan" dated 30 June 1999 and Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers "On measures to further support and development of tourism in the Republic of Uzbekistan" dated October 10, 2012 contributed to the creation of a number of schools for the training of qualified specialists in the field of tourism. Today there are five higher education institutions in this area, including the Samarkand Institute of Economics and Service, Department of "International Tourism" in the Tashkent State Economic University, analogous faculties to the Bukhara and Urgench State University and the Singapore Institute of Management in Tashkent. Every year more than 500 graduated students from these universities receive a bachelor’s degree, and more than 40 - Masters. In addition, 12 specialized professional colleges prepare more than 3.5 thousand specialized professionals.

As a result of retraining and professional participants of the tourism market, the development of industrial science, the integration of vocational education in the practical activities of the organizations the national tourism industry shows stable growth dynamics for several years.

An important role in this process is played by the Republican Research and Training Consulting Center (RRTCC) of NC "Uzbektourism" created 15 years ago. Here, experts in tourism get retraining and advanced training in all necessary areas and aspects. For half a decade, the center has become one of the most prestigious and modern educational institutions of our country in the field of tourism.

Last year alone, more than 1.3 thousand specialists have been retrained. Almost two hundred people have been trained on permanent courses by preparing guides. Rates on the organization of tour and hotel activities attracted 130 students, the English language in the field of tourism - 40 and so on.

The structure of the needs for specialists of tourism companies looks now as follows: tour operators - 40 per cent, marketers – 25, managers - 20, tour guides - ten and booking experts - five percent. In the field of hotel management the demand on employees of the service sector is 40 percent, experts in reception and reservations, as well as marketers in hotel industry - 20, the manager of the hotel industry - 15 percent.

Most of the teachers of the center have scientific degrees and titles, and are a member of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan. This is well aware that owning a powerful theoretical basis, newly minted professionals can completely navigate the specifics of the tourism business in practice even without having a common understanding of the processes occurring in it. Therefore RRTCC attracted experienced professionals from among the existing employees of the tourism industry, relevant ministries and agencies to the teaching process.
