NARIMON UMAROV'S MEETING WITH VOTERS OF SURKHONDARYO REGION

The candidate for President of the Republic of Uzbekistan from the Adolat Social Democratic Party of Uzbekistan, Narimon Umarov, met voters of Surkhondaryo Region on 1 November.

The meeting was opened by the head of the educational course for upgrading the qualifications of citizens’ self-governing body at the hokimiyat (governorate) of Surkhondaryo Region, A.Ortiqov.

R.Hamroyev, the authorised representative of the candidate for President, familiarized those gathered with the candidate’s biography.

The candidate for President of the Republic of Uzbekistan made a speech at the meeting and informed its participants about the main points of his electoral programme.

The programme specifies such important tasks as strengthening the social orientation of the economy and further raising the quality of life and living standards of various strata of the population. Special attention is paid to such spheres as education, health care and environmental protection. The issues of providing the population with modern, affordable and quality medical services and further raising their quality, strengthening the system of health care for children at schools and pre-school day care establishments, preventing illicit trade in medicines and the sale of fake and low-quality medications, improving the work of screening and perinatal centres and maternity hospitals, gynaecological and visiting nurse care services are the main sections of the programme.

The programme of the candidate for President suggests a number of tasks in the social sphere, including reform of the education system. Specifically, the candidate noted that in recent years interest among young people in getting higher education was growing and that at the Termez state university alone, the number of applicants exceeds the admission quota by a factor of 18-20. The programme proposes raising the quality of selection of talented young people and further strengthening continuity in the education sphere.

In the years of independence, in Surkhondaryo Region, as in all other regions of the country, large-scale creative work has been carried out, and the infrastructure of towns and villages has been modernized. Over the past five years, modern apartment houses, trade and services facilities were built, and people’s living standards rose.

A deputy of the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis (parliament) of the Republic of Uzbekistan, D.Tangriyev; a teacher of the Termez vocational college of information technologies and services, N.Hidirova; the chairman of the regional department of the Mahalla public charity foundation, U.Toshboyev; the chief accountant of the Termiz-Baktriya Savdo Kompleksi LLC, B.Bobomurodov; and others expressed their opinions on the electoral programme of the candidate. They called on voters to take an active part in the elections of President that are of important significance to the Motherland’s future development and the raising of the people’s wellbeing.
