NEW OPPORTUNITIES FOR TRANSIT

A new bridge over the Amu-Bukhara Canal is getting ready for commissioning this March.

The modern bridge is being built on the 184th kilometer of the road of international importance A-380 Guzar-Bukhara-Nukus-Beyneu. Its drafting was launched last July, and the construction was entrusted to Kashkadarya specialized maintenance company on bridge management.

The new bridge has a total length of 72.5 meters and a two-lane roadway. The width of each lane is more than 10 meters. There are two 1.5 meter pedestrian pavements on bоth sides of the bridge.

“A new 247 meter asphalt road from Bukhara region and a 178 meter road from Karshi are being built to bind the new bridge to the main road. The total cost of the project exceeds 11.8 billion soums,” Kamoliddin Mahkamov, manager of the bridge-building organization, said.

This is not the only major project in the road sector. This year, it is planned to build and revamp more than 260 km of roads. For example, 22 km of roads are scheduled for commissioning this year in the Republic of Karakalpakstan, 12 km in Bukhara region, 16 km in Jizzakh, 54.8 km in Kashkadarya, and 41,5 km in Namangan region.

More than 1.5 trillion soums will be allocated for these purposes. A part of funds will be channeled for the purchase of specialized equipment and road maintenance hardware, as well as for payment for design and survey works.

Today, the total length of road network in the republic exceeds 183,000 km. More than 42,600 of these falls to public roads, which are subdivided into roads of international, national and local importance.

Context

Today, the bulk of cargo and passenger traffic in Uzbekistan accounts for highways. In particular, about 85% of all freight traffic and over 95% of passenger carriage falls to road traffic.
