Novelty for Central Asia

The President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev traveled around the capital Tashkent on June 1 to review the construction works and the progress of major projects.

The head of state visited the airport for business aviation under construction at the Tashkent-Vostochny airfield.

The business airport will be a novelty for Central Asia and specialize in individual and corporate flights. Commercial aviation is expected to significantly enhance Uzbekistan’s transport and transit potential, provide distinguished guests, including foreign delegations, businesspeople and tourists, with high-quality services.

Currently, a new 4 kilometer long runway is being built to replace the old one. A terminal with a capacity of 250 passengers an hour is projected for construction at the next stage of works, as are additional infrastructure facilities, a hotel complex.

Excavation works in the volume of almost 20 thousand cubic meters have already been completed here. More than 100 units of special equipment are involved in construction and installation works.

The first phase of the project is scheduled to be complete by 2020.

“For the business airport to be fully convenient for foreign entrepreneurs, it is necessary to have an elaborate project,” Shavkat Mirziyoyev said. “Descending from the plane, the passenger at the sight of this airport should feel the generosity and hospitality of our people. Therefore, it is essential to organize a modern design institute, attract qualified specialists from Japan, Germany and other countries. The airport should serve our people for many years.”

The President enquired into the progress of project of a modern three-level interchange due to be erected at the intersection of Mahtumkuli Street and Ahangaran Highway, among the busiest in the metropolitan area. The new interchange will help reduce and weather the traffic jams frequent here and ensure the safety of drivers and passengers.

On the first level of the interchange, a tunnel of over 500 meters long is to be laid for the transition from Parkent Street to Ahangaran Highway. At the second stage, an overpass is planned be built over the tunnel, which will allow reorienting the traffic flow from the Karasu quarter to the streets of Mahtumkuli, Parkent and Ahangaran. The third level of the interchange will connect the streets of Mahtumkuli and Temur Malik. In addition, it is intended to build a separate overpass for aircraft to be delivered to the airport for business aviation following repairs at the Tashkent Mechanical Plant.

The project of the three-level interchange is a new experience for Uzbekistan. Construction works are scheduled to be complete in August 2019.

“This denouement will become a kind of a business card of Tashkent,” the President suggested. “The new edifice will prove instrumental in the development of Charvak and Chimgan resort areas. The traffic is not going to be interrupted during the construction of the overpass.”

The new structure is anticipated to shorten the route from Tashkent to Charvak by 22 kilometers. A new bridge is also being built over the Chirchik River so that the residents of the capital and foreign tourists can quickly and easily reach Charvak and Chimgan.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev instructed the officials to secure high-quality construction of the interchange, placement of communication networks, by cashing in the modern technologies.

“What we need is that the construction works should not create current inconvenience for traffic. It is imperative to seriously think about this, organize construction works in three shifts,” the President said.

The head of state got acquainted with the construction of the multi-functional ice palace Humo Arena at the intersection of Afrosiab and Beshagach streets in the Chilanzar district. The design of this sports complex harmoniously combines modern architectural solutions on the basis of advanced technologies and elements of national culture and architecture. The complex is erected in the form of the winged bird of Humo, a symbol of happiness and freedom.

The six-story complex consists of two arenas – the main one and the training section. The maximum height of the building with an area of ​​82 thousand 250 square meters will be 40 meters.

The palace, equipped with mobile seats, will be able to accommodate 12.5 thousand spectators during hockey games, 14 thousand people during other sports tournaments, as well as 10 thousand spectators in the organization of concert and entertainment programs. The complex will be available for other activities. In particular, in addition to international tournaments in hockey, curling, figure skating, short track, the arena will be able to host competitions in basketball, volleyball, handball, futsal, boxing, taekwondo, fencing and other sports. Conditions will be created for the organization of major festive events, concerts, exhibitions and forums.

The President asserted that it is essential already to start forming the teams for hockey, figure skating and other sports that will be hosted in this complex, begin studying the organization of large international competitions. The complex is scheduled to be commissioned by late this year.

Today, Tashkent has turned into a huge construction site. The international business center Tashkent City, built on an area of ​​80 hectares, is of interest not only for domestic entrepreneurs, but also for foreign investors. The next destination of the President’s review trip around the capital city was acquaintance with the course of building the business center.

Currently, the construction works are in full swing on site, itself divided into seven lots. In particular, land works worth 42 thousand cubic meters were reported complete. The installation of underground monolithic structures of the Congress Hall and a five-star hotel has been finished.
