President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev was solemnly met in the White House

As previously reported, on May 15, 2018, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev arrived in Washington, DC on the first official visit at the invitation of the President of the United States of America Donald Trump.

The main events of the visit took place on May 16 at the official residence of the President of the United States of America.

25 years have passed since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the United States of America. Over the past period, bilateral ties have developed consistently in all directions. In recent years, the Presidents have met twice – in May at the Arab Islamic American summit in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and in September, within the framework of the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly in New York. During these meetings they discussed the current state of relations between the two countries and plans for the future. In 2017, telephone conversation between the leaders of the two countries has also taken place.

During those meetings, the heads of states discussed issues of development of bilateral relations, exchanged views on current issues of regional and international importance of mutual interest. Particular attention was paid to issues of ensuring security in Central Asia, resolving the situation in Afghanistan, countering international terrorism, extremism and radicalism.

The US President expressed support for Uzbekistan’s open and constructive foreign policy, its active efforts aimed at developing good-neighborly relations and strengthening cooperation between the countries of the region, creating an atmosphere of peace and stability in Central Asia.

Similarity of views and approaches of the heads of states in issues of further development of strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and the United States of America, especially on ensuring peace and security on a regional and international scale, serves as a solid basis for consistent development of full-scale relations between the two countries.

Over the past time, Uzbekistan and the United States have made important steps towards development of relations in the spirit of strategic partnership based on mutual understanding, respect and mutual interest.

President Donald Trump invited President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to pay an official visit to the United States to discuss future plans for expanding bilateral cooperation. The proposal, accepted with satisfaction by the President of Uzbekistan, marked the beginning of a new era of high-level dialogue.

The first day of the visit began with a meeting of the heads of the two states in a narrow circle.

President of the United States Donald Trump thanked the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev for accepting the invitation to visit the USA and expressed his joy at working together on further strengthening political, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian ties between the two countries, achieving common goals in the field of regional security and stability.

– The United States supports efforts aimed at strengthening sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of the Republic of Uzbekistan and its neighbors, as well as further development of Central Asia and strengthening good-neighborliness in the region, – said Donald Trump.

Donald Trump noted that he supports the initiatives and approaches of the President of Uzbekistan in the regional policy, including on development of trade relations with Afghanistan.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev, in turn, expressed gratitude for the high respect shown to the delegation of Uzbekistan.

– Over the past time, a solid foundation for relations of friendship and partnership has been created. I think that this visit will become a good opportunity to further develop issues discussed during the meetings and telephone conversation held in 2017, as well as to take our multifaceted cooperation to a new level, – said Shavkat Mirziyoyev. – After the Presidential Elections in Uzbekistan and the USA, relations between our countries have risen to a new level. The Joint Statement to be adopted today “Uzbekistan and the United States of America: the beginning of a new era of strategic partnership” speaks for itself: our aspirations are aimed at a long-term perspective.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev noted the invariability of fundamental principles and conceptual bases of Uzbekistan’s foreign policy. Uzbekistan is a firm supporter of preservation of traditional relations with the United States of America, the consistent strengthening and development of comprehensive cooperation.
