President of Uzbekistan notes progress in WTO accession process

On the sidelines of the 80th jubilee session of the UN General Assembly, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting with Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO).

The current aspects of strengthening practical cooperation on Uzbekistan’s accession to the WTO were discussed.

Satisfaction was expressed with the dynamics of negotiations with the member states of this international organization.

Active work is underway to harmonize national legislation with WTO norms and rules, including in the areas of technical regulation and food safety.

The importance of ensuring the effectiveness of the upcoming meeting of the Working Party in November of this year was noted, as well as taking measures to complete negotiations and secure the country’s accession to the Organization in 2026.
