On April 21, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received the Director-General of the World Health Organization Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, who is in Uzbekistan on an official visit.
The discussions focused on developing cooperation with the organization to modernize and strengthen the national healthcare system.

It was noted that in recent years, cooperation with the WHO has reached a qualitatively new level. Large-scale, systemic healthcare reforms are being implemented with the Organization’s expert and advisory support, in line with its international standards and recommendations.

As part of the cooperation, several strategic documents have been developed to strengthen the healthcare system. Qualified medical personnel are being trained, while primary healthcare, disease diagnosis, and prevention systems are being improved, and state medical insurance mechanisms are being introduced.

The WHO Director-General highly praised the reforms underway in the country, particularly noting significant results in expanding access to medical services, increasing life expectancy, reducing maternal mortality, and developing digital medicine.

Following the meeting, agreements were reached to deepen practical cooperation in priority areas, including improving pharmaceutical regulation, introducing digital solutions and artificial intelligence technologies in healthcare, and conducting joint events and scientific research.
