President of Uzbekistan to address opening ceremony of the 43rd Session of the UNESCO General Conference in Samarkand

Today, on the eve of the 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference, which will soon commence its work in Samarkand, Sherzod Asadov, Press Secretary to the President of Uzbekistan, held a briefing for representatives of national and international media, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.
Main highlights:
– This historic event is being held outside UNESCO Headquarters in Paris for the first time in 40 years, and for the first time ever – in Central Asia. The session also coincides with the 80th anniversary of the Organization’s founding;
– the 43rd session will be one of the largest international forums ever held in the region, bringing together more than 2,800 participants from 190 member states and international organizations, including around 70 high-level dignitaries;
– President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić and President of the Slovak Republic Peter Pellegrini, who are visiting Uzbekistan, will take part in the opening ceremony as honoured guests;
– the Samarkand session will feature over 150 events, including more than 20 initiatives proposed by Uzbekistan;
– President Shavkat Mirziyoyev will attend and deliver a keynote address at the opening ceremony;
– on the sidelines of the forum, the President will hold bilateral meetings with President Peter Pellegrini of Slovakia and UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay;
– more than 500 journalists from leading international and national media outlets will cover the proceedings of the 43rd General Conference. Necessary facilities have been created in Samarkand to ensure their effective work.
