President reviews progress at the Center for Islamic Civilization

On October 20, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the Center for Islamic Civilization to review the ongoing work aimed at broadly showcasing the rich historical and spiritual heritage of the Uzbek people through the exhibitions being created there.

This large-scale and unique project was launched based on a Presidential Resolution of June 23, 2017. Shortly after, on the day of Ramadan Hayit in 2018, the foundation stone of the center was laid. Since then, a tremendous amount of construction and landscaping work has been completed at the site.

The complex harmoniously combines ancient architectural traditions and national decorative elements. The building features 34-meter-high portals on each of its four sides, while a 65-meter-high dome in the national style rises majestically in the center.

At the heart of the complex lies the Hall of the Holy Quran, where the ancient Quran of Uthman, a unique spiritual treasure of the Islamic world, will be displayed. In addition, the exhibition will feature handwritten copies of sacred texts from the eras of the Samanids, Karakhanids, Khwarezmshahs, Timurids, and other dynasties, along with their translations into Old Uzbek, as well as rare handwritten Qurans from across the globe.

The complex also includes a 460-seat conference hall, fully equipped for hosting international meetings and scholarly forums.

The museum comprises several sections: “Civilizations Before Islam”, “The First Renaissance”, “The Second Renaissance”, “Uzbekistan in the 20th Century”, and “New Uzbekistan – The New Renaissance”. These exhibits highlight the life and works of great scholars such as Imam Bukhari, Imam Termizi, Abu Mansur Maturidi, Bahauddin Naqshband, and other prominent theologians.

A section of the exhibition is dedicated to influential women of knowledge and philanthropy who left a profound mark on history — Bibikhonim, Nodirabegim, Uvaysi, and Anbar Otin.

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has consistently emphasized the importance of enriching the center’s activities with deep scholarly and educational content. During the visit, information was presented on efforts to expand cooperation between the Center for Islamic Civilization, the International Islamic Academy of Uzbekistan, and research centers named after Imam Bukhari, Imam Termizi, and Imam Maturidi.

While touring the facility, the President reviewed the interior and finishing works, exhibition layouts, and interactive technologies being implemented.

The President underscored the importance of ensuring that the exhibits are presented to both local and international visitors in an engaging and accessible format. In this regard, attention was paid to the need to train more qualified specialists and guides through dedicated educational programs for the center.

Recommendations were given to further enrich the exhibition content, ensuring a more comprehensive representation of the spiritual and intellectual heritage of the Uzbek people.
