President Shavkat Mirziyoyev attends the opening ceremony of the Jaloliddin Manguberdi Memorial Complex

On August 29, Urgench hosted a solemn ceremony of opening the Memorial Complex of Jaloliddin Manguberdi.

President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev attended the ceremony and, together with members of the public, opened a monument to the commander. The national anthem of Uzbekistan was played.

In his speech, the Head of the state highlighted the personality of the commander and his place in history.

“Jaloliddin Manguberdi is a great representative of our ancestors who fought and gave their lives for the independence of the country. In love and loyalty to the Motherland, honor and glory in the world, few can be compared with Jaloliddin Manguberdi”, Shavkat Mirziyoyev said.

Jaloliddin was born in 1198 and left an unforgettable mark on history in his short life. At the age of only 21, he fearlessly opposed the Mongol invasion. For 11 years, he took part in more than 300 battles against the invaders and put up stubborn resistance to them. Even Genghis Khan, seeing his courage, said: “Happy is the father who has such a heroic son”. The brave sultan, who courageously overcame the harsh trials of fate, fell at the hands of traitors at the age of 32.

Sultan Jaloliddin rose to the defense not only of his homeland, but also of dozens of other countries of the world. His name, heroism and courage have become a legend among different peoples.

After Uzbekistan gained independence, the memory of our great ancestor was immortalized. His birth anniversaries are annually celebrated. One of the highest awards in the country – the order “Jaloliddin Manguberdi” has been established. Scientific and artistic works dedicated to his life and work have been created. In particular, in cooperation with Turkish cinematographers, a historical film “I am Jaloliddin!” was shot. A military-academic lyceum named after Jaloliddin Manguberdi was organized in Urgench to educate young patriots worthy of a great commander.

The memorial complex built in the center of Khorezm is one of the results of noble work in this direction. This initiative was launched by the President in 2018. The place of installation, the artistic and ideological content of the monument were discussed in detail with the participation of historians, art critics and builders. The head of the state visited the construction several times.

Thus, a 25 meters high majestic statue was erected. It depicts Jaloliddin Manguberdi, holding the reins of his horse, striving to protect the country. Patriotism and the invincible will of our people, who are confidently looking to the future, are embodied in the resolute and proud figure of the Sultan.

There is a copy of the stone epitaph of Jaloliddin Manguberdi in front of the monument. Verses from the Quran, the genealogy of Jaloliddin Manguberdi are carved on a stone weighing 32 kilograms and 30 centimeters high. The original was found in Iran and is kept in the famous British Museum in London. This also testifies to the wide international fame of our great ancestor.

On an area of about 8 hectares, where the complex is located, large-scale construction work was carried out along Al-Khwarizmi and Islam Karimov streets. An automobile tunnel was built under the square with the monument. About 18,000 ornamental trees, flowers and shrubs have been planted on the territory of the complex.

The complex has become another attraction of Khorezm, which is becoming more and more beautiful every day. In particular, over the past five years, all district centers, about 100 villages and mahallas have been landscaped in the region. 80 new hotels have been built for tourists.

A railway was laid to the city of Khiva, and a new railway station was opened. In 2024, it is planned to launch the Afrasiab high-speed train to the city museum under the open sky. The decision to declare Khiva the Tourism Capital of the Islamic World by the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation in 2024 was a worthy recognition of these efforts.

In continuation of this work, measures are being taken to create a tourist brand of Khorezm as a place of attraction for local and foreign tourists. The complex of Jaloliddin Manguberdi will have a special place among the sights of the region.

The President noted the need for deeply studying the life and work of the great commander Jaloliddin Manguberdi, to widely popularize them among our people, especially the youth.

Thanks to such research, the grave of our great ancestor was found in the Turkish city of Silvan. The Head of the state proposed to build a symbolic mausoleum there together with Turkish partners.

It was noted that an important task is to support the scientific and creative research of scientists and writers, the creation of a scientific encyclopedia, which will comprehensively cover the history of the exploits of Jaloliddin Manguberdi.

“It is worth being proud, it is necessary to be proud of our great ancestors, including Jaloliddin Manguberdi, who during his short life showed boundless love and loyalty to the Motherland inherent in the Uzbek people, an outstanding military talent. I am sure that years and centuries will pass, but Sultan Jaloliddin will always be an unfading symbol of care and love for the homeland, serving it faithfully”, said Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

Labor veterans and representatives of the intelligentsia of Khorezm, military personnel delivered speeches and congratulated the audience at the ceremony.

To the sounds of the Jaloliddin Manguberdi march, the Guard of Honor of the National Guard marched in solemn formation in front of the statue.
