President signs the law “On guarantees of equal rights and opportunities for men and women”

President of Uzbekistan has signed the law “On guarantees of equal rights and opportunities for men and women”.

The document was adopted by the Legislative Chamber on August 17, 2019, and approved by the Senate on August 23.

According to the law, the basic principles of guaranteeing equal rights and opportunities for men and women are as follows:

legality;

democracy;

equality of men and women;

discrimination against gender;

openness and transparency.

The state guarantees equal rights for men and women in the exercise of their personal, political, economic, social and cultural rights.

Provisional special measures will be taken to ensure the implementation of gender policy by the state with a view to achieving genuine equality between men and women, expanding their participation in all areas of public life, preventing and eliminating direct and indirect gender discrimination.

State statistical bodies shall collect, process, store, analyze and publish statistical information that reflects the status of women and men in all areas of society on the basis of gender indicators.

Gender indicators can also be formed on the basis of statistical data of civil self-governance bodies, NGOs and other civil society institutions.
