President of Uzbekistan has signed the law “On guarantees of equal rights and opportunities for men and women”.

The document was adopted by the Legislative Chamber on August 17, 2019, and approved by the Senate on August 23.

According to the law, the basic principles of guaranteeing equal rights and opportunities for men and women are as follows:

The state guarantees equal rights for men and women in the exercise of their personal, political, economic, social and cultural rights.

Provisional special measures will be taken to ensure the implementation of gender policy by the state with a view to achieving genuine equality between men and women, expanding their participation in all areas of public life, preventing and eliminating direct and indirect gender discrimination.

State statistical bodies shall collect, process, store, analyze and publish statistical information that reflects the status of women and men in all areas of society on the basis of gender indicators.
