PUBLIC INSPECTORS ENGAGE IN ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION

A seminar has taken place at the State Nature Protection Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan on the development of cooperation with public inspectors for ecological control. The seminar was attended by representatives of state and nongovernmental organizations, citizens’ self-governing bodies, scientists, experts and journalists.

In this country, a firm law-based foundation has been created for the rational use of natural resources. A law of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On ecological control”, adopted on 27 December 2013, is an important guidance document for stepping up the work in this area.

In accordance with this law, along with state, departmental and industrial control, public control was also initiated for the purpose of preventing the irrational use of natural resources and for raising the effectiveness of work on environmental protection.

In accordance with the legislation, the names of candidates for ecological inspector, working on a voluntary basis, are put forward by citizens’ self-governing bodies and nongovernmental non-profit organizations. In order to train such specialists and to raise their qualifications, a special educational-methodological centre has been established at the State Nature Protection Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

“The initiation of work of the public ecological inspector of the neighbourhood is of important significance to carrying out topical tasks that are before us, including the tasks of ensuring territories’ ecological cleanness, raising the ecological culture of the population, economically using natural resources and bringing up the younger generation in the spirit of respect for moral values,” says the chairman of the “Mustaqillik (independence)” neighbourhood citizens’ gathering in Yunusobod district, Bahrom Muhammedov.

During the seminar, speeches were heard on the law-based foundations of public ecological control, on public inspectors’ role in environmental protection and on projects being implemented in the system of training and raising the qualifications of specialists in the sphere of environmental protection. Certificates were given to a number of public inspectors whose qualifications in the area of ecological control had been upgraded.
