RECEPTION AT OQSAROY RESIDENCE

On May 1, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov received the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of strategy and finance of the Republic of Korea Choi Kyung-hwan.

Welcoming the guest, the head of our state noted that the Republic of Korea is a reliable and time-tested strategic partner of the Republic of Uzbekistan. Uzbek-South Korean cooperation is mutually beneficial and fruitful, and is developing dynamically in all directions.

Currently the Republic of Korea is one of the key economic, technical and investment partners of Uzbekistan.

With the active participation of Korean business in our country, a number of strategically important investment projects in various industries are being implemented. Successful examples of this fruitful cooperation is the construction of Ustyurt gas chemical complex at Surgil Deposit, as well as dozens of projects in engineering, power generation, oil and gas, automotive, electrical, textile industry and other industries. Over 400 enterprises with participation of the South Korean capital are holding their activities today in Uzbekistan. Total South Korean direct investment in the Uzbek economy has exceeded $5 billion.

Cooperation with partners from South Korea in the field of information technology and communications is actively developing. Hereby it is necessary to mention opened in 2014 in Tashkent the branch of Inha University, which trains specialists in the field of computer engineering and programming.

Partnership ties are being strengthened with leading financial institutions of the Republic of Korea as Eximbank, Korea Development Bank, the Fund "EDCF" and many others.

During the meeting at the Oqsaroy, the sides exchanged views on further expansion of mutually beneficial trade-economic, investment and financial cooperation between Uzbekistan and South Korea. It was noted that the holding in these days of the third meeting of finance ministers of the two countries would allow for a deeper analysis of the current state and identify new areas of cooperation in the economic sphere.

Choi Kyung-hwan expressed his sincere gratitude to the head of our state for the warm reception and confirmed the readiness of the Republic of Korea to further strengthen the multifaceted and long-term cooperation with Uzbekistan.
