Samarkand to host XII International Music Festival “Sharq Taronalari”

Samarkand to host 12th edition of the traditional International music festival “Sharq Taronalari” (“Melodies of Orient”) from August 26-30, 2019.

The festival has cemented itself as one of the most charming music events worldwide.
It is aimed at developing the art of Oriental music, promoting folk, exchanging cultures between the nations living in Uzbekistan with the world and foster scientific exchange in music spheare.
The festival is held under the auspices of UNESCO once in two years in Samarkand in late August. This year, “Sharq Taronalari” has become a member of the International Organization of Folk Art.
Representatives of 110 countries and high level guests from international organizations like UNESCO, Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the International Organization of Folk Arts, Asian Development Bank have become members within the past 11 festivals.
This year the event will bring together more than 400 guests from 80 countries of the world. Events like scientific-practical conference “Prospects for development of traditional musical art of the peoples of the East”, concerts, international competitions of folk music masters to take place within the festival.
Famous critics, scientists, artists and honorable guests will participate in the event. Besides, the festival will feature a number of roundtables, presentations and seminars.
UNESCO and Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization representatives are among high-level guests. Festival will feature professional singers and groups from Armenia, Afghanistan, India, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Spain, Italy, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Pakistan, Russia, United States of America, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Turkey, Ethiopia and other countries.
International panel out of eminent specialist of national folk music will be formed to evaluate the contestants. High-level skill and performance are among major criteria.
“Sharq Taronalari” will be broadcasted by mass media representatives via national television channels and through official website: www.sharq-taronalari.uz.
Cultural events for citizens and guests featuring performances by music schools and art schools will also be organized in parks of Samarkand.
