A session of the Council of the heads of states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) will be held in Tashkent on 23-24 June 2016, former SCO Secretary-General Dmitry Mezentsev told the Russian President Vladimir Putin on 14 January.

Russian leader Vladimir Putin said: “I am certain our Uzbekistani friends and colleagues will do everything to hold it at the highest possible level.”

Dmitry Mezentsev added: “Of course, Mr President. The Tashkent summit is also to confirm the start of the accession to the organisation by India and Pakistan, which required a great deal of work on the part of those countries.”

In July 2015, it was reported that the SCO summit will be held in the first half of September. In summer 2015, Uzbekistan has taken over the rotating SCO Presidency.
