SIUT: Engineering Specialists for Economic Development

The Samarkand International University of Technology (SIUT) is training highly qualified engineering professionals to support Uzbekistan’s economic development, which aligns with the goals set by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

Currently, 370 students are enrolled at SIUT, which was established three years ago. The university offers 11 specialized programs, with an educational process based on a dual system, combining theoretical knowledge with practical experience. From their first year, students undergo internships at enterprises of the university’s founding company, SANEG, as well as the Eriell Group, Enter Engineering, and other industrial clusters in Uzbekistan. These include oil and gas and geological industries, business incubators, logistics companies, and thermal, photovoltaic, and hydroelectric power plants.

One of the key factors in the successful training of engineering specialists at SIUT is its highly qualified faculty. The university employs over 50 professors and lecturers from 18 countries, all fluent in English and with doctoral degrees. SIUT Provost – Professor Bobby Hall has over 40 years of academic experience in higher education institutions in the United States, including 18 years as President of Wayland University in Texas. According to Stanford University, Professors Mohammad Kaabar (Mathematics) and Changiz Valmohammadi (Logistics) are listed among the top 2% of the world’s leading scientists.

In collaboration with partner universities in South Korea and China, SIUT has successfully established the Korean Institute of Technology and Culture (KITC) and the Chinese Institute of Electric Power (CIEP), offering dual-degree programs.

International trips serve as a significant incentive for students. Last year, they visited China as part of the “Chinese Bridge” Spring Break Program. The student theater group “Oltin Meros” performed concerts at six universities in South Korea. Meanwhile, students from the Chinese Institute of Electric Power (CIEP) at SIUT participated in a summer camp organized by Northeast Electric Power University (China).

SIUT has also established a Center for Creative Engineering, bringing together young inventors developing industrial startups in electromechanics.

Students showcased their innovative projects at the SMART24 international conference at the Canadian University Dubai. Additionally, students from engineering disciplines participated in the Winter University program, which was hosted in three Russian cities – Saint Petersburg, Pskov, and Veliky Novgorod.

As part of the state program for poverty reduction, a humanitarian and educational project was implemented on the initiative of Bakhtiyor Fazilov, Chairman of the University’s Board of Trustees. Five young individuals from the “Iron Register” program were chosen to participate through a competitive selection process. They received special preparatory courses and free education at Gimcheon High School. Additionally, last year, 74 undergraduate students received various scholarships from the Chairman of the Board of Trustees.

Despite its recent founding, the Samarkand International University of Technology (SIUT) has already received numerous recognitions and awards. In a ranking published by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Innovation of Uzbekistan and the “Yosh Ziyokor” Association, SIUT ranked second among 76 private universities in the country. Ahead of 2025, the university was awarded a special diploma in the category “Best Non-State Educational Institutions of the Year” at the Science and Innovation festival, placing it among the top three.

SIUT continues its active development, with even more excellent opportunities on the horizon – this year, the university is set to relocate to a new campus, spanning six hectares along the banks of the Zarafshan River.
