SUPREME COURT AND SUPREME ECONOMIC COURT HOLD SESSION

Human rights protection and true independence of the judiciary have been reaffirmed as priority objectives of our policy at the joint plenums of the Supreme Court and the Supreme Economic Court of Uzbekistan. Participants said the judicial and legal reforms laid the foundation for strong ties between the two courts.

The Supreme and Supreme Economic Courts of Uzbekistan passed 5 joint resolutions, so as to ensure proper judicial procedures. The two plenums’ resolutions are regularly analysed and amended for compliance with the legislation. On the agenda this time was the draft of a resolution “On Amendments and Addenda to Joint Resolutions of the Plenum of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Plenum of the Supreme Economic Court of the Republic of Uzbekistan”

Also scheduled for the day was the regular session of the Supreme Court Plenum. The Plenum discussed draft-resolutions on unified judiciary, citizens’ rights protection, and further development of the judiciary. Among them is the draft on “Judicial Practice in Law Enforcement for Crime-Inflicted Property Damage”. The draft was caused by recent changes in the judicial practice.

Participants said the laws are most effective when they are most comprehensible. Each sentence should squarely answer the questions brought before the court. The Supreme Court Plenum draft “On Law Enforcement in Criminal Cases” clarifies that the court may, if necessary, iron out the ambiguities in the sentence, where the subject matter is left unaltered and the conditions for the convict are not worsened. The draft also provides for technicalities and other details.

Participants also reviewed the Resolution “On Judicial Practice for Parole and Commutation” and the Resolution “On Amendments and Addenda to Some Resolutions of the Plenum of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Uzbekistan”

All issues found their reflection in corresponding resolutions.
