Tashkent hosts a Conference of Special Representatives of the EU and Central Asian Countries on Afghanistan

Today, a conference of special representatives of the European Union and Central Asian countries on Afghanistan took place in Tashkent, reports “Dunyo” IA correspondent.

International and regional efforts for the peaceful resolution of the Afghan crisis, the active involvement of Afghanistan in the regional integration processes, the economic recovery of the country and the implementation of various infrastructure projects on its territory were discussed at the event.

In his speech, the Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Afghanistan Ismatulla Irgashev highlighted the main aspects of Uzbekistan’s policy towards Afghanistan, including the need for establishing a constructive dialogue with the new authorities of the country.

The participants of the meeting, noting their concern about the difficult humanitarian situation in Afghanistan, called on other states to provide humanitarian assistance to the people of this country.

The need for the new Afghan authorities to fulfill their promises and international obligations to create a Government based on broad representation, respect the rights of women and national minorities, and prevent the country’s territory from becoming a haven for international terrorists was noted.

The special representatives expressed support for the initiative of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to create a multifunctional transport and logistics hub in Termez for the delivery of humanitarian aid to Afghanistan.

An agreement was reached to continue the dialogue of this format regularly as a platform for consultations and cooperation in support of the Afghan people.

Following the event, a Joint Statement was adopted.
