The workshop on principles of international assessment of public financial management effectiveness was held in Poytakht business center, in Tahskent.
The event, organized jointly by the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the World Bank delegation and the European Union, was attended by representatives of domestic and foreign financial organizations.
At the workshop, organized in pursuance of the resolution of the Head of the country “On measures for ensuring openness of budget data and active participation of citizens in budget process” of August 22, 2018, scientific-practical aspects of assessment of the effectiveness of public financial management on Public Expenditure and Financial Accountability (PEFA) were analyzed.
At the event, it was noted that within the framework of reforms implemented in Uzbekistan on improving public financial management, the Ministry of Finance and the World Bank are working on an Institutional Capacity Building Project in the amount of 30 million USD.
The Ministry of Finance has been instructed to take measures on assessing the effectiveness of public financial management according to the PEFA criteria. For this purpose, a joint delegation of the World Bank and the European Union will stay in Tashkent until October 5 and will conduct the assessment, which will result in the announcement of relevant conclusion.
During the two-day workshop, participants attended theoretical and practical classes on PEFA methodology, acquired necessary knowledge and skills. Results of the conducted assessment will help to develop a long-term strategy for improving public financial management assessment.
