TERRITORIAL SEMINARS TO BE HELD IN COORDINATED FASHION

On 1 November 2016, expert groups conducted a gathering at the republican press centre for coverage of the elections of President of the Republic of Uzbekistan on holding training seminars for members of precinct electoral commissions in localities.

The event conducted in the form of video conference was attended by members of the Central Electoral Commission and district electoral commissions, deputies, scholars, specialists and representatives of civil society institutions and mass media.

The chairman of the Central Electoral Commission, M.Abdusalomov, said that precinct electoral commissions’ role is important in the presidential elections.

By a resolution dated 13 October 2016 of the Central Electoral Commission, a range of measures were adopted for the effective organization of the work of the precinct electoral commissions in the Republic of Uzbekistan. On 20 October, a republican training seminar was conducted.

On 1-10 November this year, the Central Electoral Commission and district electoral commissions as well as the independent institute for monitoring civil society formation are to arrange training seminars in all the territories of the country to further raise the legal awareness of electoral commission members and to augment their knowledge about the effective work organization of the electoral commissions.

These events are for the purpose of further raising electoral commission members’ knowledge in such areas as equipping polling stations, compiling voters’ lists, arranging early voting as well as voting on elections day, the importance of observers’ institution and mass media’s role in ensuring the transparency of electoral processes.

During the gathering, there was a detailed discussion about the issue of holding territorial training seminars in a coordinated fashion for members of precinct electoral commissions.
