THE ELECTIONS ARE TAKING PLACE ON THE BASIS OF DEMOCRATIC PRINCIPLES

Sergey Lebedev, the chairman of the Executive Committee – Executive Secretary of the CIS:

“Observers of our mission are monitoring the elections of President of the Republic of Uzbekistan. It should be said that Uzbekistan’s electoral law was improved significantly. Equal and broad conditions were created for citizens to freely express their will. Voters were given complete information about the candidates, their programmes and the electoral law.

Equal possibilities were provided for all the candidates to use mass media.

“This is conducive to voters’ active participation in the political process and to the holding of the elections on the basis of principles of objectivity and fairness.

“The wellbeing of the population also indicates that the country is steadily moving forward on the path of democratic development. This is a result of consistent reforms implemented under the leadership of the First President of Uzbekistan, Islam Karimov.

“It is also worthy of attention that methods conforming to world standards are being used for holding the elections on the basis of democratic principles.

“The world community’s attention is drawn to the fact that in this democratic state formed in accordance with ideas of First President Islam Karimov the elections are taking place at a high level.”

Jamshed Jamshedov, a members of the Central Electoral Commission of the Republic of Tajikistan:

“I have observed the process of voting at polling station No 5 in the town of Jizzakh. The elections are progressing in total conformity with the legislation and international principles of democracy. Voters are freely voting for the candidate of their choice. I spoke with some voters. Each of them has their own opinion. The activeness of voters shows that Uzbekistan’s people are not indifferent to the destiny and future of their Motherland.”
