On April 7, on the sidelines of the 150th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Tashkent, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, received Najat Maalla M’jid, Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General on Violence Against Children.

The distinguished guest conveyed the sincere greetings of the UN Secretary-General António Guterres to the President of Uzbekistan.

The meeting focused on the development of multifaceted partnerships with UN institutions, particularly with the office of the Special Representative, in the area of protecting the rights, freedoms, and legitimate interests of children.

The Special Representative commended the effective reforms led by the President of Uzbekistan in the areas of protecting children from all forms of violence, repatriating women and children from conflict zones, and eradicating child labor.

The importance of enhancing cooperation in developing international legal frameworks on children’s rights, improving national legislation, and strengthening the activities of institutions responsible for child protection was emphasized.
