On April 7, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, received a delegation from the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), comprising the President of the IPU, Tulia Ackson, and the Secretary-General, Martin Chungong.
The high-ranking representatives of the IPU extended their sincere congratulations to the President of Uzbekistan on the successful organization of the Union’s anniversary Assembly in Tashkent, as well as on his keynote address during the plenary session.
It was emphasized that hosting such a large-scale forum in Uzbekistan, along with the strong support for the initiatives put forward, is a testament to international recognition of the achievements of the irreversible reforms taking place in New Uzbekistan, particularly in the development of parliamentarism.
The highest level and productive nature of cooperation with the Inter-Parliamentary Union were noted with satisfaction.
In recent years, joint efforts have led to the successful organization of the Inter-Parliamentary Forum on the Sustainable Development Goals in Bukhara and the 14th Summit of Women Speakers of Parliament in Tashkent.
In addition, a special resolution of the United Nations General Assembly was adopted on strengthening the role of parliaments in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
During the conversation, the importance of parliamentary diplomacy was emphasized as a crucial tool for fostering peace and promoting constructive dialogue among nations and peoples. The parties also noted the need to expand legislative efforts in the areas of green development and artificial intelligence, as well as to implement programs that increase the participation of women and youth in parliamentary activities.
Following the meeting, in recognition of his significant contribution to the development of cooperation and the effective promotion of parliamentary diplomacy, the President of Uzbekistan personally awarded Inter-Parliamentary Union Secretary-General Martin Chungong with the “Dustlik” (Friendship) Order.
It is worth noting that Uzbekistan resumed its participation in the Inter-Parliamentary Union in 2017 and is now fully represented in its executive bodies.
