As part of his official visit to Brussels, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with King Philippe of the Belgians at the Palace of Laeken.
The meeting focused on expanding bilateral cooperation in trade, economic, investment, cultural, and humanitarian spheres. The parties also exchanged views on pressing issues of the international and regional agenda.
King Philippe highly commended the productive results of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s talks with the EU leadership and sincerely congratulated the Leader of Uzbekistan on the signing of the historic Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement with the European Union.
The steady development of relations between Uzbekistan and Belgium was noted with satisfaction. Active contacts have been established at the ministerial level, regular political consultations are held, and friendship groups have been formed in the parliaments of both countries.
Cultural and humanitarian cooperation between Uzbekistan and Belgium continues to expand. Sister-city relations have been established between Tashkent and Kortrijk, and between Samarkand and Liège. A bust of our great scholar Avicenna has been unveiled in Kortrijk.
Mutual trade turnover is growing, and Belgian companies are successfully operating in Uzbekistan, particularly in textiles, logistics, and services. Last year, the Benelux Chamber of Commerce opened its office in Tashkent.
At the meeting, the importance of organizing new business missions of Belgian companies to Uzbekistan and holding joint cultural events to strengthen bilateral ties was noted.
Following the talks, the President of Uzbekistan invited King Philippe to visit Uzbekistan.
