The President of Uzbekistan noted the vast opportunities for increasing interregional cooperation with China

On March 28, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received a delegation of the People’s Republic of China led by the Chairman of the People’s Government of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region Erkin Tuniyaz.

Priority areas for further enhancing multifaceted cooperation between Uzbekistan and China were considered, including the development of practical interaction between the regions of Uzbekistan and the XUAR.

The highest level of friendship and all-weather strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and China was noted with deep satisfaction.

Uzbekistan’s trade turnover with Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region is growing – this region currently accounts for about 10 percent of mutual trade between the countries.

The portfolio of investment projects with leading companies from the XUAR amounts to $3.5 billion and today covers green energy and the electrical industry, the construction sector, and the production of new types of building materials, metallurgy, infrastructure modernization, and others.

A cultural exchange program is being actively implemented.

The Head of state noted the importance of further building mutually beneficial cooperation with the XUAR and accelerating joint projects. Several priority areas have been identified – innovative technologies, agriculture and water management, transport and logistics, banking and financial sector, education, and traditional medicine.

It was emphasized that Uzbekistan would participate actively in the leading exhibition “Expo China-Eurasia”, held annually in Urumqi.

At the meeting, issues of developing humanitarian and tourism ties were discussed in detail.

Particular attention was paid to promoting the project for constructing the Uzbekistan – Kyrgyzstan – China railway.
