THE RED CRESCENT SOCIETY OF UZBEKISTAN INCLUDES MORE THAN 1,3 MILLION MEMBERS AND 38 THOUSANDS OF VOLUNTEERS

The Red Crescent Society of Uzbekistan (RCS) celebrates its 90 anniversary of establishment. 152 anniversary of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies has been also celebrated.

The Red Crescent Society of Uzbekistan is the oldest humanitarian organization of our country, was founded in 1925 and received the status independent humanitarian voluntary association in accordance with the decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan in 1992.

The RCS was established to implement the ideas of humanism and mercy, assistance to public authorities and local self-government in humanitarian activities in order to provide charitable assistance and clemency to the most vulnerable population. The organization is a full member of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, which unites 187 national societies in the world.

Today, 15 regional and 191 district offices, 2,5 thousand primary organizations have effectively functioning in the structure of the RCS of Uzbekistan, number of their members is over 1,3 million people and 38 thousand volunteers. The staff and volunteers of the RCS of Uzbekistan always adhered to its noble mission, fundamental principles of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies as humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, voluntary service, unity and universality

The office “Mehr-Shafqat”, was established in each regional organization, fulfills extensive work to provide targeted support for elderly people. It is one of the main activities of RCS of Uzbekistan, whose priority is to contribute the implementation of social orientated state programs. Thus, more than 20 thousand citizens received moneyed assistance and financial support for the last five years, over 1,5 billion sum was sent for this purpose.

Today, the Society actively participates in the implementation of State program “Year of attention and care for the older generation”, aimed at the protection and comprehensive support to senior citizens. It is entrusted with the task of providing moneyed assistance and provision of medical social services to veterans of war and labor front, single elders, pensioners and disabled. More than 650 million sums have been allocated in the framework of national society program since the beginning of the year.

Tree medical-social centre are functioning in Tashkent, Samarkand and Ferghana on the basis of the RCS of Uzbekistan that assist wards and vulnerable populations.

The national society closely cooperates with the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic in order to prepare the population for possible emergencies. Thus, the regional organization of RCS of Uzbekistan took part in more than 30 command-post exercises, organized jointly with the Ministry. 832 sanitary squads were created in schools and secondary specialized educational institutions throughout the country. During the year, over 5000 students and 1500 teachers were trained in the skills of giving the victim first aid in the framework of special program.
