The sustainable development goals to be implemented in conjunction with Uzbekistan 2030 Strategy

As is known, systemic work is being carried out to implement the Sustainable Development Agenda 2030 consistently. In this regard, the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan approved 16 national goals and 125 sustainable development objectives until 2030.

What work has been carried out to ensure healthy lifestyles and support the well-being of people of all ages, taking these objectives into account in 2017-2022?

Senior researcher at the Institute for Macroeconomic and Regional Studies Abdullatifkhan Anvarkhanov answered this question:

–The activities of our scientific institution are aimed at analyzing the reforms being carried out in our country and developing appropriate proposals in all areas.

Regarding your question, one of the UN Sustainable Development Goals is to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for people of all ages. Activity in this direction in our country is being carried out at an accelerated pace. Naturally, the question may arise, what are the results?

It should be noted that ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all ages is the third of 16 national goals, consisting of 13 targets and 23 indicators.

High results were achieved in key indicators. According to them, in 2017, the maternal mortality rate was 21.0 per 100 thousand live births, and in 2022 – 13.9. Over 5 years, this figure has improved by 51 percent.

In 2017-2022, the incidence rate of tuberculosis per 100 thousand people decreased from 44.9 to 35.3 percent and improved by 27 percent. The incidence of hepatitis B was 0.8 percent per 100 thousand people in 2017, and in 2022 – 0.4 percent, having decreased by half.

In 2017, the number of medical personnel was 26.1 per 10 thousand people; in 2022, it increased to a ratio of 27.9, corresponding to a positive growth of 6.9 percent.

Of course, the above figures are associated with positive changes in maintaining a healthy lifestyle for the population. A comparative study of these indicators is helpful in every respect.

It is planned to implement the 3rd SDG in conjunction with the Uzbekistan 2030 Strategy. At the same time, bold steps will be taken to achieve such targets as halving the mortality rates of women, newborns, and infants under 5 years of age, increasing the number of maternity beds by 35 percent, reducing infectious and non-communicable diseases among children by 20 percent, full coverage of treatment for patients who have cancer.
