THE UZBEK-BRITISH JOINT VENTURE IN FERGANA REGION

According to the program of socio-economic development of the Fergana region in 2015 in the agricultural sector has been implemented more than 600 projects.

In the Fergana region, special attention is given to the development of poultry farming, to increase the volume of growing poultry products, as well as providing the population with high-quality dietary products. The introduction of advanced technologies in the sector, as well as conducting preventive work serve as the efficiency of poultry farms and the development of their activities.

The Uzbek-British joint venture “STRAUS FARM”, founded in the Bogistan village of Rishtan district, established cultivation of ostriches in the local conditions. At first, 200 heads of African ostriches was purchased and brought from abroad for 306 thousand dollars. It was allocated about 16 hectares of land to create the necessary space and pastures for growing of ostriches.

Ostrich meat is valued in the global food market as a delicious, diet product with low in cholesterol. From ostrich skin produces shoes, wallets, handbags, and expensive clothes, gloves, from the clutches made a powder for cleaning diamonds and from the feather - down pillows. In addition, expensive raw materials are used in upholstery. Weight of the12-14 month ostrich is 100-120 kilograms, from it has been received 20-25 kgs of meat and 1,2-1,8 square meters of skin. In modern medicine, ostrich blood vessels can be used in human transplantation.

According to experts, the ostrich reaches reproductive age for 4 years, and such birds in the poultry industry called “Breeder”. The average age of the egg production -10-15 years old, bred ostriches for 40 years lay eggs. Meat chickens, hatched from eggs, laid by one ostrich over 10-12 years can reach 72 tons.

According to specialists, the life expectancy of an ostrich is 70 years. The height of the adult ostrich - 2.7 m, weight - 150 kg. One family of an ostrich in one season (10 months) can lead to 80-100 chickens. It should be noted that with a herd of ostrich 40-45 percent of meat is obtained. The average cost of ostrich meat in the world market amounts to 12-15 Euros, untreated raw skin - 60 euros. The quality of ostrich feathers, grown in cold and warm climate is valued less than grown in hot climates. But those feathers are much more expensive than feathers grown in other industrial environments.
