TOURISM POTENTIAL OF UZBEKISTAN IS STRENGTHENING

Press Conference of the State Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Development of Tourism, dedicated to prospects of tourism development in Uzbekistan and its significance for the economy of the country, was held at the Press Hall under the Press Service of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

Chairman of the State Committee on Development of Tourism A.Abdukhakimov informed representatives of domestic and foreign mass media about the ongoing work on enhancing the tourism potential of our country, implementation of a unified state policy in the sphere, wide propaganda of historical and cultural heritage of our people, implementation of “Safe tourism” concept and introduction of national tourism products and brands on the world market.

Tourism is one of the dynamically developing sectors of the economy, has an important place in increasing incomes and employment of the population, socio-economic development of the country.

Tourism potential of Uzbekistan is strengthening

Currently, there are more than 7,3 thousand objects of cultural heritage in Uzbekistan, including more than 4,2 thousand objects of archaeological and more than 2 thousand objects of architectural heritage. More than 500 of them are included in tourist routes. 8 protected territories, 3 national nature parks, 6 state natural monuments and 11 reserves are also of great tourism potential.

Last year, 2,5 million tourists visited our country, export of tourism services amounted to 1 billion 557 million dollars. Activity of 128 tour operators was organized, their total number reached 561. Assortment and scale of rendered services has expanded.

Bukhara, Samarkand, Khiva and Shakhrisabz are declared safe tourism zones, appropriate norms have been developed, security measures have been introduced. “Charvak” free tourism zone has been established in Tashkent region by the Decree of the President of our country of December 5, 2017.

Activity continues on organization of “Ancient Bukhara” and “Samarkand City” tourism zones in Bukhara and Samarkand, implementation of about 450 projects, restoration and conservation of 50 cultural heritage sites, construction and reconstruction of more than 50 hotels and about 100 public catering units.

Tourism potential of Uzbekistan is strengthening

At the press conference it was noted that procedures related to issuance of visas and registration of foreign tourists were simplified. In particular, the procedure for issuing single entry visas to tourists arriving on an individual basis for a period of 30 days was introduced. The cost of issuing visas was reduced from 60 to 40 US dollars.

Information and communication technologies are being actively introduced into the industry. “E-Mehmonxona” automated system, uniting more than 600 tourism objects of our country has been commissioned, accounting foreign and domestic tourists in places of accommodation, as well as reporting in this sphere has been converted into electronic format.

At the event, serious steps that are being taken in the sphere of bringing tourism services to the level of international requirements, facilitating customs clearance at airports were noted. “Green” and “red” corridors have been organized in all air harbors of our country. Projects on providing tourists with maps of cities, improving the taxi drivers service culture, expanding the scale of transport services and others were considered.

At the same time, factors causing complaints from foreign tourists, including in connection with restriction of the work of cafes and restaurants at night, the lack of a sufficient number of one-, two-star hotels, lack of buses, public toilets were noted. It was emphasized that consistent activities are being held on their elimination.
