TOWARD PEACEFUL RESOLUTION OF CONFLICTS

The UN Security Council has noted the important role of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy in Central Asia.

The United Nations Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia was established in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, in December 2007. The Center assists the governments of Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan in building capacities for the peaceful resolution of disputes and conflict prevention through dialogue and engagement of international support.

The United Nations Security Council has hosted a briefing of the head of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy in Central Asia, Petko Draganov. Upon its completion, the Chairman of the Security Council Vladimir Yelchenko expressed support for the efforts of the Center.

Members of the Council noted the importance of preventive diplomacy and early warning mechanisms for the peaceful settlement of disputes, and stated that in this context the central body welcomes the work of the Regional Center. They called on the Center to support the cooperation of Central Asian countries in the fight against terrorism, drug trafficking and management of trans-boundary water resources.

Moreover, the UN Security Council urged the Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy to enhance interaction with regional organizations in the promotion of Sustainable Development Goals for the period up to 2030.
