TRADITIONS OF PRECIOUS CULTURAL HERITAGE

The scientific-cultural congress “Uzbekistan’s cultural heritage – a path to dialogue between peoples and countries” continued in Samarqand on 16 May.

The scientific-cultural congress was arranged by the national association of electronic mass media of Uzbekistan in cooperation with the strategic development centre of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan, the Academy of Arts of Uzbekistan and the UNESCO representative office in this country.

Scientists and scholars of Uzbekistan and foreign countries, representatives of international organizations, specialists of this sphere and experts looked at an exhibition entitled “A carpet market of the East – the best examples of carpet making in independent Uzbekistan”. The exhibition was opened in the yard of the Mirzo Ulughbek madrasah. They also looked at a presentation of books arranged as part of this project.

Participants in the event said that Uzbekistan with its rich cultural heritage, spiritual values and great achievements in the sphere of science and education had made an immense contribution to the development of humanity. They emphasized that in the years of Uzbekistan’s independent development, the state had created broad opportunities for the preservation of this cultural heritage and the continuation of national traditions and values. Unique areas of Uzbek people’s applied arts and craftsmanship were revived, and scientific research into these was carried out. Today the country’s younger generation of artists and craftspeople continue these traditions.

At the initiative of President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the 2017-2021 Action Strategy on five priority areas of the development of the Republic of Uzbekistan was adopted.

This strategy specifies tasks relating to the development of the spheres of culture, science, literature and art. These tasks are being implemented successfully.

The guests acquainted themselves with unique examples of silk carpets and embroidery of Samarqand. These are genuine works of art. They also held conversations with craftspeople and entrepreneurs and watched their work processes.

“In the world’s largest and famous museums, there are many unique historical objects, books and manuscripts about the history of Uzbekistan and about this country’s national traditions and values. Drawing a conclusion from what has been exhibited and from what has been said at the event, one can say that works of visual arts and works of people’s applied arts and items of national craftsmanship that are being created today are also precious assets of not only national culture but also entire humankind. Every historical building in Samarqand and unique historical objects on display here do not cease to evoke feelings of amazement and admiration,” says Russian Andrey Zybkin, international coordinator of the Cultural Heritage of Uzbekistan project.

An event took place at the Mirzo Ulighbek madrasah on the uniqueness and historical and cultural significance of Uzbekistan’s arts. At this event, foreign and Uzbek scholars and international experts made speeches and gave presentations about traditions of Uzbek people’s applied arts, about the role of the Great Silk Road in establishing cultural links between the East and the West and about the literary art of Ma wara al-nahr (Transoxiana). Speeches were also made about the process of making books and albums within the framework of the project “Uzbekistan’s cultural heritage in collections of the world.”

It was said that the development of science, art and culture had been started in Uzbekistan ages ago. Three thousand years ago, Uzbek people’s ancestors laid foundations for modern science. Great thinkers of this land made a great contribution to the development of astronomy, mathematics and medicine. In the epoch of Amir Temur and Temurids, national craftsmanship and architecture also actively developed equally with science in Ma wara al-nahr. Famous scientists, artists and craftspeople of the East worked in Samarqand.

In the observatory and madrasah built by Amir Temur’s grandson, Mirzo Ulughbek, hundreds of scientists from the West and the East studied astronomy, mathematics and other sciences.

At the Konigil meros enterprise, participants in the event acquainted themselves with the process of making silk paper of Samarqand by using ancient technologies and looked at an exhibition of works of calligraphers and artists of Samarqand.

A cultural programme and an evening of national music in the “Boghishamol” garden recreated in the likeness of gardens of Amir Temur and a presentation of a book-album entitled “the music heritage of Uzbekistan” were found to be unforgettably impressive by participants.

The events of this international forum concluded with a music show entitled “Uzbekistan’s cultural heritage is a treasure of all humankind”, which took place in the Registon grand square under the starlit sky of Samarqand.
