"Uzbekengilsanoat" and BCI to discuss the new technologies of cotton cultivation

During a visit to Uzbekistan the Representatives of «Better Cotton Initiative» (BCI) program held a meeting with the leadership of the SJSC "Uzbekengilsanoat", in the course of which the sides discussed prospects of bilateral cooperation.

Program specialists have noted that the use of the methodology «Better Cotton Initiative», will allow farmers to increase the amount of cultivated cotton, while reducing its cost.

It was emphasized that the famous global brands producing knitting products have passed on the purchase of raw cotton grown under the program BCI. And this year, IKEA plans to completely switch to cotton that grown by farmers using the methodology of «Better Cotton Initiative». Many other major textile producers also planning to move to such system by 2020.

According to experts, the implementation of these techniques in the production of cotton will allow the Uzbek textile producers to further strengthen its position in the global market.

Note that the program was founded in 2005 by leaders of the world market and international non-governmental organizations such as Adidas, Gap Inc., H & M, ICCO, IFAP, IFC, IKEA, Organic Exchange, Oxfam, PAN UK and WWF.

This initiative is aimed at teaching farmers with new technologies of cotton cultivation that require less water and pesticides, improve labor standards and increase farmers’ profits. In order to increase the fertility, different types of cottonseed and several methods of cultivation are used.
