Uzbekistan, Afghanistan expand cooperation

Tashkent State Institute of Oriental Studies with the support of Uzbekistan – Afghanistan Friendship Society held an international scientific conference on “Afghanistan in the XX and XXI centuries: Historical, economic, social, political aspects and relations with Central Asian countries”.

The event, organized on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of independence of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, was attended by representatives of academic community, scientists, leading experts from Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Russia, United States, China, Netherlands and Sweden.

The event is aimed at scientific analysis of social, historical and cultural spheres over the past 40 years of development of Afghanistan.

As it was noted at the event, developing relations between Uzbekistan and Afghanistan are aimed at ensuring wellbeing of people of the two countries, peace and stability in the region, strengthening multilateral cooperation, expanding trade-economic and humanitarian relations.

The conference continued its work in breakout sessions. Reports on socio-cultural development of Afghanistan were heard, its relations with Central Asian countries in cultural, political, trade-economic spheres, Uzbekistan’s role in this process were analyzed.
