Uzbekistan Airways has started operating a second weekly regular flight on the Tashkent–Islamabad route, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.
The first regular flights on this route were launched on June 14 of this year. With the new schedule, the national carrier now operates four weekly flights to Pakistan: on Tuesdays and Saturdays to Islamabad, and on Wednesdays and Fridays to Lahore.
On October 28, the flight departing from Tashkent landed at Islamabad International Airport at 06:50 local time. The crew and passengers of the inaugural flight were formally welcomed by the Minister of Education and Professional Training of Pakistan Wajiha Qamar, the Ambassador of Uzbekistan Alisher Tukhtaev, the Director of Islamabad International Airport Syed Aftab Ali Shah Gilani, and other civil aviation officials.
The launch of these flights is considered an important step in expanding economic diplomacy between the two countries, promoting cultural, humanitarian, and academic exchanges, and increasing tourist traffic.
Flights on this route not only facilitate mutual visits between Uzbekistan and Pakistan but also provide convenient options for transit to Europe, Asia, the Middle and Far East, and Southeast Asia.
On the same day, a meeting was held with Syed Aftab Ali Shah Gilani, Director of Islamabad International Airport. During the discussion, it was emphasized that increasing the number of flights would strengthen transport and communication links, enhance trade and economic cooperation, and further bring the peoples of the two countries closer together.
The parties also agreed to develop cooperation between Islamabad International Airport and airports in Uzbekistan in areas such as: passenger service improvement, optimization of pre-flight procedures, implementation of specialized training programs, and organization of joint cultural, tourism, and promotional events leveraging the facilities of Islamabad Airport.
