Uzbekistan and Qatar develop interparliamentary relations

The Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Tanzila Narbayeva has met with the Secretary-General of the Shura Council of the State of Qatar Dr. Ahmed bin Nasser Al Fadala.

At the meeting, broad areas of cooperation between Uzbekistan and Qatar and prospects for further strengthening inter-parliamentary ties were discussed.

The trade turnover and investment between the two countries is growing. Large joint projects are being prepared and implemented. The parties noted that, despite this, economic indicators, particularly the volume of mutual trade turnover, do not fully reflect the capabilities of both countries. There is potential to increase it several times. It is necessary to unite the two countries’ efforts to accelerate interparliamentary relations further and bring them to a new stage.

As a practical mechanism, it was proposed to ensure regularity of visits and speed up the development of a draft relevant document on interparliamentary cooperation.

Following the meeting, an agreement was reached on developing mutual dialogue within the framework of various international organizations and parliamentary structures.
