Uzbekistan delegation attends Central Asia – European Union Meeting

On July 7, 2019, a delegation of the Republic of Uzbekistan led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulaziz Kamilov attended the 15th Ministerial Meeting “Central Asia – European Union”, in Bishkek.

Heads of foreign affairs agencies of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and the European Union discussed current issues of interregional cooperation in various fields.

High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Vice-President of the European Commission Federica Mogherini in her speech paid special attention to the new EU Strategy for Central Asia, approved on June 17.

Addressing the meeting, Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov noted that goals and objectives set out in the new EU Strategy for Central Asia fully comply with the priorities of Uzbekistan Development Strategy for 2017-2021, which was developed at the initiative of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, and highly appreciated the EU’s readiness to support transformation of the economies of the region into diversified and competitive.

Head of Uzbekistan delegation highlighted the effectiveness of cooperation with the European Union on Afghanistan, in particular in development of trade, infrastructure, transport and communication relations.

In his speech, the Minister elaborated on prospects for development of multilateral relations in cultural and humanitarian sphere.

Following the ministerial meeting, a Joint Communiqué was adopted.
