Uzbekistan delegation holds talks in the UK

Uzbekistan delegation led by First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Sodik Safoyev visited the UK within the framework of informing the British politico forming and the public circles about large-scale reforms in the country, as well as upcoming elections to the Parliament and Local Councils of People’s Deputies of Uzbekistan.

According to the Embassy of Uzbekistan, Cambridge hosted a roundtable discussion with participation of representatives of academic and expert circles of the UK. The event was organized with the support of Cambridge Central Asia Forum and the Centre of Development Studies of the University of Cambridge.

Participants praised Uzbekistan’s political and economic modernization, pragmatic and constructive foreign policy, contributing to strengthening the stability in the region.

In addition, representatives of the British University expressed interest in developing cooperation with research and education institutions of Uzbekistan.

The event was also attended by a group of British experts who will visit Uzbekistan as international observers from the UK for the elections on December 22.

During the visit, the delegation held a number of bilateral talks, including with the President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development Suma Chakrabarti, who praised the transformations in the country and noted the progressive nature of Uzbekistan’s cooperation with the EBRD, including plans to increase the volume of funding and expand the Bank’s presence in the regions of the country.
