Uzbekistan, EBRD to expand cooperation in green economy

The First Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Ilkhom Norqulov, met with Gianpiero Nacci, Managing Director for Climate Strategy and Delivery at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

During the negotiations organized within the framework of the Samarkand Climate Forum, further steps were discussed to implement the $200 million decarbonization strategy and the tasks outlined in the Memorandum of Cooperation on transitioning to a green economy.

Special attention was paid to supporting small and medium-sized enterprises in industry, agriculture, services, and manufacturing. The issues of improving energy efficiency, implementing sustainable development principles, and obtaining international certification to expand export potential were also discussed.

The parties discussed the implementation of the Star Venture Program, which aims to support promising startups and small to medium-sized businesses by attracting grant funds and expert assistance to facilitate sustainable growth and green transformation.

It was noted at the event that the Star Venture program will support innovative startups and accelerators by providing them with expert assistance, financing, and access to international cooperation. The program will be implemented in partnership with governments, corporations, and venture funds.

Following the meeting, an agreement was reached on further expanding cooperation and jointly implementing projects in sustainable development and the green economy in Uzbekistan.
