The Parliament of Uzbekistan held a joint parliamentary forum with the international organization of parliaments of the world – the Inter-Parliamentary Union, via videoconference.
The forum was held on the eve of the International Day of Parliamentarism on “The role of parliaments in implementing the recommendations of the UN Human Rights Charter Bodies: on the example of the UN Human Rights Council and the Human Rights Committee”.
The conference was attended by the Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Martin Chungong, representatives of the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, the UN Office in Uzbekistan, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, the OSCE/ODIHR and other international organizations, the National Center for Human Rights of the Republic of Uzbekistan (NCHR), leaders and members of both chambers of Uzbekistan’s Parliament.
Implementation of the provisions of international documents in the legislation of Uzbekistan, including on human rights, creates the necessary conditions for dynamic promotion in the community of the most developed countries of the world.
Chairperson of the upper house of Parliament, Tanzila Narbayeva noted that in accordance with the recommendations of the IPU, a parliamentary commission on Sustainable Development Goals was created in the structure of the Oliy Majlis.
First Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Chamber, Director of the NCHR, Akmal Saidov, noted that the Parliament of Uzbekistan is actively involved in the activities of the Inter-Parliamentary Union and other international forums of parliamentarians.
